About two months ago, I called my girlfriend Christina and asked her to take me to Costco for the first time. You see, her family is living off of her teacher’s salary while her hubby stays home with their one year old son. They do fine…very well, in fact. We were talking one day, and the subject of grocery shopping came up. I was complaining about my grocery bill…$300 a week (about $1200 a month, give or take)! Honestly, I thought that was a pretty typical bill for a family of six (hubby who eats a box of cereal in one sitting, 2 year old who thinks milk is water, 4 month old baby who won’t take the “cheap” formula, two babies in diapers, you get the idea…). Well, imagine my surprise when she told me what her monthly bill was…$300 a MONTH! OK, it was at that moment I knew that I was doing something very wrong…so I sat up that night thinking about a plan of attack. It began with Christina teaching me my first two lessons…buy in bulk and clip coupons to use on SALE items. So in lesson number one I have learned that Costco is AMAZING for soooo many things…especially baby wipes and toilet paper! I bought TP at the beginning of February and I still have PLENTY left! Lesson number two is what I am most excited about. Something I never thought I would be is a coupon clipper…BUT I was determined to cut my grocery bill, and I was going to try it. Here’s what happened first…I cut a 50 cent coupon out for Rice-a-Roni and walked into Vons. Rice-a-Roni was on sale for $1.00. When I went to checkout, the cashier rang up my $1.00 Rice-a-Roni, swiped my 50 cent coupon, it doubled, and yep, you guessed it, my rice was FREE!!! Ummm, yeah, I’m sold on the coupon thing, LOL!!! I w as so excited I called my hubby from the store to tell him…
…and so began my journey as a coupon mom. This blog is dedicated to my journey…a newbie coupon mom trying to save a buck!
